  2. PARTNERS IN EDUCATION • Academics • Students and Graduates • Senior Nurses (Nurse Managers and Educational Facilitators) • Clinicians (Nurses and others) • Patients, Clients and Carers (Service Users) • Private and Voluntary Organisations • Statutory Organisations

POWER AND ENGAGEMENT • In Education: • power distributed according to contribution and degree of control of the different partners • varies within different aspects of the enterprise • standards met if all partners contribute their expertise and resources. • all partners have power to make or break quality of the programme

PROMOTING ENGAGEMENT • Help all partners accept importance of their contribution and become fully engaged • All partners contribute to philosophy / values and beliefs underpinning programme • Share full information about developments in curriculum • Help everyone to understand contribution to the whole

  5. COSTS AND BENEFITS OF PARTNERSHIP • El Ansari Paradox (community health project)to get commitment to project, • balance between benefits and costs had to be positive • ratio of benefits to costs of 1.6 perceived as favourable.

BENEFITS • Being part of a new initiative • Meting others with similar interests • Recognition and respect from others • Recognition and thanks to individuals and organisations • Influence nursing curriculum • Professional development for clinicians and nurse managers involved in practice education

  7. BENEFITS (cont) • Shape values of future employees. • Enhance care of those with particular conditions • Help students understand real life experiences • Students suitably prepared for clinical placement • Takes account of placement availability • Graduates adequately prepared for role as RN

  8. COSTS • Financial cost of attending meetings • Time away from own work • Organisation does not get public recognition for work in the partnership • Too many similar organisations involved, no sense of being special or unique. • Individuals’ skills and time not well used

The Lilliput Theatre Company • Professional theatre company of adults with learning difficulties • Present series of educational sketches which highlight discrimination that many adults with learning disabilities face today. • Focus for discussion about inclusion and equality issues with students of all fields of practice
