  3. Past Tense & Present Perfect Past Tense: “He went to the library yesterday.” What experiences are you sure about from the above sentence? Exs: “He has been to the library.” “He has gone to the library this week.” “He has seen the inside of the library.” “He has (probably) used some library facilities. Not certain experiences: He has checked-out books from the library. He has used the computers in the library. He hasn’t been to the library today. He has been in the library since yesterday.*

  37. Past Perfect • used to describe any action in the past that precedes a main action of the story • useful for explaining how a “pre-existing” condition affects the action of the story EX. I had had a strange dream the night before, so I felt odd when I woke up in the morning. After she had studied for 4 hours, she felt tired and went home. They had just bought a new car, so they found it easy to get to school when it started.
