Institutions used to promote a national identity in Canada • Read opening paragraph page 317 • Grab handout 4.14.3 “How Institutions Promote Canadian Identity” • Institution – an organization established for a specific purpose • Often use symbols and stories to define their identity and promote a sense of belonging • Red Cross is an example • The activities of institutions usually overlap and their mission might not be just to one field • Can run at local, municipal, provincial and national levels
