Transport Research • Impossible to suggest a single realm of academic or commercial enquiry that addresses transport alone. • Transport covers social, economic, infrastructural, engineering, psychological, and more, disciplinary areas. • BUT research is relevant and appropriate to transport as a method of achieving benefits in each of the disciplines, to the public, reducing costs etc. • This has led to a good number of theme specific institutes, consultants, and government departmental research

  3. Researching taxis? • Significance of taxis to mobility • Night time transport • Trip chaining, first and last miles • Social inclusion • Congestion • Pollution

  4. Taxi Research! • Research supports practice, practice supports research • Research applications are critical to the development of the industry • To do so, research needs to understand the issues faced by the industry • To achieve a full understanding, dialogue is required
