  1. Progress on the Prototype design Catania Goikoetxea, Mikel Navarro Medrano, Javier Mainz, March 31st, 2011

  2. Previous prototype L Frames to support Capsules. Glued to the Crystal Capsules with 2 APD per Crystal CF Alveole Al Insert Grease between APD and Crystal PWO Crystals 2 preamplifiers per Crystal 16 Crystals separated in 4 groups, inserted in each of the alveole quarters

  3. Drawbacks • APDs Capsules redesign • Frames redesign • Preamplifiers configuration

  4. New design criteria • APDs: together and centered? • Test of configuration (together or not together) • Preamplifiers configuration: as close as possible due space limitations • Insert thickness

  5. Capsules • Compactness around APDs: gives more gluing surface between Crystal and Frame. Gluing surface Inserted from sides Active area

  6. Patch Panel • Removes wiring between APDs and Preamplifiers. • Mounted on Capsules. • 2 types of Patch Panels. • Assembly • Patch panel insertion • APD insertion guided by pins • Pins welding?

  7. Preamplifiers • New stacking method: one opposite to the other. • Grouped over a single Tray (16 per Tray).º Spacers between Preamplifiers and Tray Connectors for pins

  8. Preamplifiers • Positioning.

  9. Frame • Group of 4 Crystals/Capsules. • Groove for spare glue. 0.3 mm groove New design

  10. Mounting group • 4 Crystals • 1 Frame • 4 APD Capsule groups To be assembled in each Alveole quarter hole

  11. Frame - Materials • PEEK: expensive? • ABS: properties? • Aluminium: • Betterforthermalbehaviour • Electric point of view? • Possibletoglue?

  12. Alveoles Holes for Optic Fibers in the front • 10 mm of gluing surface. • Front covered. • Frames separated by middle cross? 10 mm of gluing surface Middle cross

  13. Aluminium Insert • Thickness of 5-6 mm. • 0.1 mm from Alveoles for gluing • Possibility of assembly guides • Grooves for Trays 6 mm thick 5 mm thick

  14. Future tasks • Material analysis. • Load analysis of Insert and Alveoles. • Thermal analysis. • Test different ideas for cooling • Vertical and horizontal load analysis. • Mounting plates, Supports… Continue with the design • Assembly procedure
