High Level Goals - District Long term goals (3-5 years) • Establish a culture where STEM inquiry, research and design are integrated within all grade levels across the school district • Create an interest and appetite for STEM research and design projects and exhibitions across the school district • Secure funding mechanisms and resources to support increased student research and design projects and activities • Increase participation of district students in district, regional, state, and national STEM Exhibition events Short term goals (1-2 years) • Implement a District-level K-12 STEM Exhibition/Festival for interested students hosted at MTHS (March, 2013) • Secure district level commitments to support expansion of student STEM inquiry, research and design projects

High Level Goals - MTHS Long term goals (3-5 years) • Expand opportunities for MTHS students to participate in STEM research and design outside of the classroom • Increase the number of MTHS students developing ISEF aligned research and design projects and participating in STEM Exhibition events • Establish MTHS as a recognized Innovative STEM school which serves as catalyst for the implementation of inquiry, research, and design integration across the district Short term goals (1-2 years) • Increase teacher appetite and vision for STEM inquiry, research, and design within MTHS STEM School courses and curriculum • Intentionally scaffold research and design skills in MTHS Grade 9-10 STEM School courses to maximize student preparation for ISEF aligned projects in grades 11-12 • Create opportunities for ISEF aligned projects in grades 11-12, with opportunities provided for students in grades 9-10 who are ready and interested for this level of project • Increase MTHS student development of ISEF aligned projects and participation in district, regional and state STEM Exhibition events

Objectives District Objectives • District STEM Vision is revised to include inquiry, research, and design projects as stated area of emphasis • District guidelines and policy are revised to include ISEF or other ISEF-aligned exhibitions as approved options for meeting Culminating Project requirements • Edmonds Public Schools Foundation facilitates raising, receiving, and distributing funding to support Teacher advisors and district STEM Exhibition • Introduce District STEM Exhibition event hosted at MTHS in March, 2013 MTHS Objectives • All STEM School Science and Engineering teachers commit to integrating inquiry, research, and design skills within their STEM courses and curriculum • Inquiry and research skills are integrated within Honors Biology and Chemistry • Research and design skills are integrated within all grade 9-10 Engineering courses • Inquiry, research and design skills and projects are integrated within Advanced STEM pathway courses and are aligned to ISEF standards and criteria • Student research and design projects within the STEM Capstone course are aligned with ISEF standards • By 2013, at least 5 MTHS students will complete projects aligned to ISEF standards and participate in the Central Sound or WA State Science and Engineering Fair • By 2014, at least 20 MTHS student projects will align to the ISEF standards with potential to participate in the Central Sound or WA State Science and Engineering Fair
