  3. When you add up all the sides of a polygon and add them together, this measurement is called the perimeter.

  4. Why is it important to know what a perimeter is? • In order to know how long to build the fence around the school, we have to know the perimeter. • In order to know how long the border around the bulletin board is, we have to first know the perimeter.
