  1. Home Escape Planning

  2. What we will learn today • We will learn about what to do if you ever have a fire in your home

  3. We have already learned that: • We should have at least one smoke alarm on every floor of our house

  4. We also learned that: • If our smoke alarm sounds, we should GET OUT AND STAY OUT!

  5. Every home should have an escape plan in case of a fire Everyone in the home should practice the plan together!

  6. You should know two ways out of every room • If your main exit is blocked by fire, use your second exit • could be a window

  7. Check doors for heat before opening them • use the back of your hand and feel the door and the door knob • if it is warm - do not open it!

  8. If there is smoke, crawl on your hands and knees until you are outside • Smoke and heat rises • stay low where the cooler, cleaner air is

  9. Close doors as you leave your house • Smoke can move very fast through your house • Closing doors shuts off the air supply and helps to slow the smoke • Gives you more time to escape

  10. tree streetlight mailbox swingset • Once outside, go to your meeting place outside so mom and dad can find you and can tell the fire fighters that everyone is out okay

  11. tree streetlight mailbox swingset • Once outside, call 9-1-1 from a cell phone or from a neighbor’s house - after your family has met at your meeting place.

  12. Once you are outside, DO NOT go back inside for anything • not your favorite toy • not your favorite pet • They can be replaced - you cannot!

  13. GET OUT AND STAY OUT! • Never hide under a bed or in a closet • Never stop to pick something up • Never go back inside for anything
