  1. RBSPElectric Field and Waves Instrument(EFW) Electrical Peer Review EFW Harnesses Michael Ludlam EFW ELECTRICAL PEER REVIEW

  2. EFW Harness • Harness details are contained in RBSP_EFW_SYS_008H (diagram) and RBSP_EFW_SYS_015C (pin out). • There are four main harnesses sets • BEB to Booms (harness to AXB split on S/C bulkheads) • PCB to Booms (harness to AXB split on S/C bulkheads) • EFW to EMFISIS • BEB to DFB Co-ax (6) • The harnesses are non-identical lengths for Spacecraft A and Spacecraft B. • Wire bundles are wrapped in teflon and then covered with Aracon shielding that is connected to backshells. • Backshells are fully enclosed style (as required by APL). 3. Derating for 225V • Derating - show we meet INST_EE_002 for the connectors. Max connector voltage is +/-240V (equivalent to 240VAC RMS) • EEE-INST-002 Connector Derating Requirements says that you derate to: • 25% of Diaelectric withstanding voltage AND • 75% of operating voltage • Positronix D (MIL-DTL-24308) • ‘Proof Voltage’ 1000VRMS • ‘Working Voltage’ 300VRMS. • Assuming Proof Voltage is equivalent to DWV, derated DWV is 250VAC. Just OK. • 75% of 300VRMS is 225VRMS. • We exceed the derating. MAX is +/-225VDC • AMP D 24308 (series 109) • DWV 1250VAC • Derates to 312V. OK. • Working voltage not listed. EFW ELECTRICAL PEER REVIEW

  4. Mass Mass NTE is 4.06kg Mass CBE is 3.79kg ETU harness lengths were built to rev B of the pinout description, and will need to be modified to bring them up to rev C. This will change the mass CBE. ETU harnesses were not wrapped in Teflon before the outer shield was put on – can’t remember where this requirement came from or if it is necessary. 5. Parts List Shielding and Backshells have been ordered, although some changes maybe necessary for rear mounted connectors on the boom units and harness bundle sizes. Co-ax cable 50CIS on order. Sample from UMN used for ETU. Need to decide on using AMP or Positronics connectors for flight. Sept 2nd & 3rd 2009 EFW ELECTRICAL PEER REVIEW 5

  6. Testing & Flight Build HRN_001, HRN_003 and HRN_004 have been tested with the IDPU and boom units/preamps on the ETU. No changes so far, although AXB Heater now removed needs to be included in harness document. Once the harnesses are modified to rev C lengths and APL is ready for a fit test on the S/C mock up the final lengths will be verified. Harness production can happen late in the flight build timeline as they are not needed until the IDPU is integrated with the SPBs / AXBs. ‘Functional’ Test of harness occurs during safe to mate test prior to integration.
