  1. Experiment No 6 Determination of transpiration by using CoCl2 filter paper method

  2. Introduction • Transpiration is the loss of water in form of vapors from the areal parts of living plants and the movement of the vapors in the external atmosphere. • Regulation of Transpiration

  3. Environmental factors that affect the rate of transpiration • Importance of Transpiration • Regulation of Transpiration • Driving force for Transpiration

  4. Material and Chemicals • 3% CoCl2 • HCl • Filter paper • Beaker • Digital Balance • Distilled Water • Oven

  5. Procedure • Prepare 3% CoCl2 solution by dissolving 3 grams of Cobolt Chloride in 100 ml of H2O. • Add 2-3 drops of HCl to this solution. • Cut filter paper according to the size of leaf and dip into the solution. • Dry filter paper using oven. • Filter paper will change its color from pink to blue. • Attach filter paper to the leaf. • Observe the result.

  6. Observation • Filter paper will change its color from blue to pink , which is the indication of water evaporation from that leaf.
