  7. 2 ORNL BUILDING WHAT COULD BE THE WORLD’S FASTEST COMPUTER OAK RIDGE - Oak Ridge National Laboratory is building what could be the fastest computer in the world. It's called Summit, and it will help scientists from around the world research new technology. It takes up a room that's as big as nearly two basketball courts. Scientists are lining up to work at the lab, which provides the best tools for studying. "We model things from the smallest nanoparticles all the way up to the entire universe," said Buddy Bland, project director at the Oak Ridge Leadership Computer Facility. LEARN MORE

  8. 3 INSIDE VIEW: TOKYO TECH’S MASSIVE TSUBAME 3 SUPERCOMPUTER Professor Satoshi Matsuoka, of the Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech) researches and designs large scale supercomputers and similar infrastructures. More recently, he has worked on the convergence of Big Data, machine/deep learning, and AI with traditional HPC, as well as investigating the Post-Moore Technologies towards 2025. He has designed supercomputers for years and has collaborated on projects involving basic elements for the current and more importantly future Exascale systems. ARTICLE

  9. 4 HOT CHIPS 2017: A CLOSER LOOK AT NVIDIA’S VOLTA Hot Chips is a yearly conference where the best and the brightest of the semiconductor industry provide deep-dive details on the latest cutting-edge processors. This year featured a diverse range of topics that mirror the latest industry trends. Naturally, that means a huge dose of AI. Presentations from Nvidia, Google, and Microsoft, among many others, outlined the latest developments. Nvidia was on hand to present some of the finer microarchitectural details off its new Volta GV100 SMs. We'll get to the presentation shortly, but we also had a meeting with Rob Ober, Tesla Chief Platform Architect at Nvidia, for a closer look at the GV100.   10. 5 IBM & NVIDIA PRESENT THE NVLINK SERVER YOU’VE BEEN WAITING FOR IBM partnered with NVIDIA to embed a high-speed connection, NVLink, between the IBM POWER8 CPU and the NVIDIA Tesla P100 GPU accelerator, has reached its first major milestone. Today IBM is announcing the IBM Power Systems S822LC for High Performance Computing, which couples two high-performance POWER8 with NVLink CPUs with four NVIDIA Tesla P100 GPU accelerators connected using the NVIDIA NVLink high-speed interface. This custom-built GPU accelerator server, where the NVLink interface is routed on the motherboard, uses the novel NVIDIA Tesla P100 SXM2 form-factor GPU accelerator. BLOG
