  2. HMS HISTORY “The Grand Old Campus” OPENED IN 1953 AS HENDERSON HIGH SCHOOL ORIGINALLY HAD 3 BUILDINGS BUILDINGS WERE MULTI-LEVEL STRUCTURES

  3. HMS CAMPUS TODAY 5 4 10 3 8 9 2 7 6 1 At present, HMS has 10 building units. At least 3 of these units have had additions added.

  4. HMS SAFETY • There are over 44 building entrances on the HMS campus. All are being used during the school day. • There are 6 vehicle entrances into the HMS campus.

  5. STRUCTURAL ISSUES The structural integrity of various walls at HMS are compromised, such as the science building and the front office area shown here. A recent sink hole has also caused a safety concern and may be linked to structural damage in the lower portion of the Science wing.

  6. DRAINAGE ISSUES • WATER RUN-OFF COLLECTS / ERODES AREAS • CEILING TILES ARE CONSTANTLY BEING REPLACED FROM LEAKY ROOFS • WALKWAYS ARE FLOODED AND COVERINGS LEAK • WATER LINES BURST FROM PRESSURE DUE TO AGE

  8. HMS AIR QUALITY • EXTREME TEMPERATURE CHANGE FROM CLASSROOM TO HALLS IN BOTH THE SUMMER AND WINTER MONTHS IS A HEALTH CONCERN • WATER DAMAGE TO TILES AND CARPET INCREASE THE CHANCE FOR MILDEW AND MOLD TO EXIST

  9. HMS TECHNOLOGY ISSUES • ASSESSABLETECHNOLOGY IS LIMITED AT HMS DUE TO BUILDING COMPOSITION • TECHNOLOGY EQUIPMENT PLACEMENT RESTRICTIONS DUE TO ASBESTOS CONCERNS • COMMUNICATIONS ARE RESTRICTED FROM BUILDING COMPOSITION

  10. HMS ROOM CAPACITY • HMS has 770 + students currently enrolled. • All HMS classrooms are used throughout the school day. • Current HISD enrollment of K - 2ND grades forecasts an increase of approximately 130 additional students for HMS.
