  2. Case Study #1 • Wayne K. • Small livestock operation • 20-25 milking goats • Used goat milk to raise calves and hogs • Diabetic Neuropathy in hands/feet, arthritis in fingers, heart attack, etc. • Main source of income came from VA pension

  3. Case Study #1 • Needed goat milking machine (~$1,340) • $900 Friends of Man • $350 Colorado AgrAbility AT Fund • $90 client

  4. Case Study #2 • Chad C. • Cattle/calf and hay operation • MS affecting stamina and strength in extremities • Made worse because of the hot climate he lived in

  5. Case Study #2 • Needed window tinting for swather, replacement suspension seat, and portable A/C • $300 from MS society • $890 from VR

Alternative Funding Sources for AT • Civic/Community • Southern Colorado Livestock Association Benefit Dinner and Dance • Our main source of money for AT • Has contributed over $5,000 the last two years • Churches that clients attend • A couple clients have received donations from churches that they attend SCLA Stockmen’s Ball 58% Client Contributions 1% Private Donations 13% Foundations 28%

Alternative Funding Sources for AT • Fed/State • PASS plans • SSI check $564/month for living expenses • Not much money, but right now all expenses including living and business are covered by the $824/month VA check • $772/month into PASS Plan • Over the 18 months that will allow the farmer to spend $13,896 on business expenses • After 2 months $1,544 for milking machine • After 5 months $2,316 for livestock trailer • After 7 months $1,544 for goat panels • After 11 months $3,088 for additional goats • At the end of 18 months for $5,404 for ATV

  9. Alternative Funding Sources for AT • Private Non-Profits • MS Society • Has $300 the can contribute to individuals with MS • Parkinson’s Society • Was selling a very nice electric wheelchair for $500 • We had a client who needed one because his insurance would not cover it
