  6. Punch, Frontier Science 2004

  7. H.E.S.S.: completion in 2003 Four 12m telescopes (2 completed) in Namibia, Africa Max Planck Inst., Heidelberg, etc.

  8. Hofmann, Gamma2004

  9. Hofmann, Gamma2004

  10. H.E.S.S. vs CANGAROO My personal thoughts! • H.E.S.S. • Their detection area is very big! • Greater than the Cherenkov light pool: Really??? • Detailed analysis procedure not presented yet • But, • The Crab is seen reasonably well… • CANGAROO-I solid? • Re-analysis of old data is not easy… • We have CANGAROO-III data to be analyzed.

  11. CANGAROO-II 10m telescope • Parabola reflector consisting of 114 mirrors of 80cmφ(57m2), f=8m, F/0.8 • Camera: 3FOV, 552x 3/8”PMTs (0.12 pixel, Hamamatsu R4124UV) • Readout: q-ADC & TDC • In operation since 2000 March

  17. Hofmann, Gamma2004

  18. SNR RX J1713.7-3946 as CR source? Still p-p origin is viable!

  19. New entry: Galactic center Gamma-ray signal (ON-OFF) • CANGAROO 10m result Tsuchiya et al., ApJ 606, L115 (2004)

  20. Galactic center: IC emission from SNR? In preparation Tsuchiya, Ph.D. thesis in preparation (2004)

  23. Hofmann, Gamma2004 CANGAROO Whipple H.E.S.S.

  24. Aharonian & Neronov, astro-ph/0408303 Emission from Sgr A*? p-p in the accretion disk + absorption

  25. Hooper, Perez, Silk, Ferrer, Sarker, astro-ph/0408303 Dark matter annihilation? (I) Assuming continuum (via W+W-, Z0Z0, qq) spectrum is dominant _ m =3TeV, J~104

  26. Horns, astro-ph/0408192 Dark matter annihilation? (2) m =18TeV =5104GeV/cm3

  29. Hofmann, Gamma2004

  30. Hofmann, Gamma2004

  31. Summary • Very high energy sources may contain large varieties, including both galactic and extragalactic objects. • TeV gamma-ray astronomy is becoming an indispensable field of astronomy. • The “third generation” Cherenkov telescopes are about to increase sensitivity –more fun!
