  17. More about the firewall • The USR9106 and USR9105 router provide stateful packet inspection of all incoming packets for intrusion detection. The router keeps track of all packets originating from the LAN and creates a table entry for these connections. All packet received from the WAN must have a matching connection in the SPI table otherwise it is dropped or rejected. • By default ICMP (ping) are allowed to go (LAN) out but not in (WAN). • SYN packets, unless requested from a LAN device are dropped and help to prevent SYN Floods (Denial of Service) • Checking for same source and destination address prevents Land Attacks that cause LAN machine to go into a never-ending loop.
