  1. The Circulatory System By ; Crystale Ye, Julie Leung, Melissa Chan, Theresa Chan, & Stephanie Sanchez.

  2. The System And Its Function. • Circulatory System is the body’s transport system. • It is made up of a group of organs that transport blood through the whole body. • The heart pumps the blood and the arteries and veins transport it. As blood begins to circulate, it leaves the heart from the left ventricle and goes into the aorta. • The blood leaving the aorta is full of oxygen. The oxygen rich blood travels through the body in its system of arteries into the smaller arterioles.

  3. Vocabulary : Systems and Its Functions • Circulatory System - Composed of vessels and muscles that control the flow of blood around the body. • Coronary Circulation - Flow of blood to and from the tissues of the heart. • Pulmonary Circulation - Flow of blood through the heart to the lungs and back to the heart. • Systemic circulation - Largest part of the circulatory system, in which oxygen-rich blood flow’s all the organs and body’s tissues, except the heart and lungs, and oxygen-poor blood are returned to the heart.

  4. The Parts And Its Functions • The circulatory system is made up of many parts. The heart pumps the blood through the whole body. Then the arteries and veins transport it. The oxygen-rich blood leaves the left side of the heart and enters the biggest artery, called the aorta. The aorta branches to smaller arteries, and then branches into even smaller vessels that travel all over the body. When the blood enters the smallest blood vessels, it is called capillaries. They are found in the body tissue, where it gives nutrients and oxygen to the cells and takes in carbon dioxide, water, and waste.

  5. Vocabulary : Parts and its Functions • Arteries- a blood vessel that conveys blood from the heart to any part of the body. • Aorta – The large trunk artery that carries blood from the left ventricle of the heart to branch arteries. • Vessels – Transport blood throughout the body. • Capillaries – Tiny blood vessels that branch through body tissues to deliver oxygen and nutrients and carry away waste products. • Tissue - Part of an organism consisting of an aggregate of cells having a similar structure and function.

  6. The System’s Importance and Why Is It Vital. • The Circulatory System is important to our body because this system transports our oxygen. • It’s vital to our body’s survival because if we don’t have the circulatory system, we’ll have nothing to the fresh blood but carbon dioxide. • Our brains would get irreversible damage which will make you die.

  7. Diseases & Disorders . • There are diseases and disorders to the circulatory system. The parts that it affects are the heart, blood vessels, and blood. It can affect the entire body. • There is the heart disease. It is the class disease that involves the heart or the blood vessels. The cause of the heart disease is called atherosclerosis. Fatty deposits build up the walls. It can occur in any artery in the body. The deposits in coronary arteries are serious and can cause a heart attack. The only thing that can fix it is heart surgery.

  8. Diseases & Disorders . [ cont. ] • Another leading cause is hypertension or high blood pressure. When the blood is higher most of the time, extra strain is placed on the heart. It must work hard to keep the blood flowing. • There is also heart failure. It is when the heart cannot pump blood efficiently. It can be caused when heart muscle tissue is weakened by disease or when the heart valves do not work properly.

  9. More Vocabulary ; • Atrium - two upper chambers of the heart that contract at the same time during a heartbeat. • Ventricle - either of the two lower chambers on each side of the heart that receive blood from the atria and in turn force it into the arteries. • Vein - blood vessel that carries blood back to the heart, and has one way valves that keep blood moving toward the heart. • Plasma - liquid part of blood, made mostly water, in which oxygen, nutrients, and minerals are dissolved.

  10. & more . • Hemoglobin - chemical in red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to body cells, and carries some carbon dioxide from body cells back to the lungs. • Platelet - irregularly shaped cell fragment that helps clot blood and releases chemicals, that help form fibrin. • Lymph - tissue fluid that has diffused into lymphatic capillaries. • Lymphatic system - carries lymph through a network of lymph capillaries and vessels, and drains it into large veins near the heart. • Lymphocyte - a type of white blood cell that fights infection. • Lymph node - bean shaped organs found throughout the body that filters out microorganisms and foreign materials taken up by the lymphocytes.
