  3. Tough Words • “For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self?” (Luke 9:24-25) • “I assure you that everyone who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or property, for my sake and for the Good News, will receive now in return a hundred times as many houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and property – along with persecution. And in the world to come that person will have eternal life” (Mark 10:29-30 NLT) • “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me” (Matthew 16:24)

Luke 9:57-62 • 3 “followers” • Home comforts, security • Priorities in our lives • People in our lives • Divided loyalties • Deny yourself • Not about us – but Him • Be prepared to be out of step • Discipleship = loyal obedience and total submission • “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me” (Matthew 16:24)

Holiness & Happiness • “Holiness not happiness is the chief end of man” – Oswald Chambers • Jesus wants to develop holiness in this lifeand we’ll have happiness in the one to come– not the other way around • “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” John 8:31-32 (NLT) • “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me” (Matthew 16:24)

  6. The Challenge • “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” Galatians 2:20
