APA STUDENTS • EXEMPT FROM TAKING NJBCT • All students who are EXEMPT FROM TAKING the NJBCT MUSTtake the Alternate Proficiency Assessment (APA) in Biology as designated in each student’s IEP. • For enrollment purposes, a NJBCT Answer FolderMUST be submitted for allAPA students receiving Biology instruction during the 2011-12 school year. • If an APA student responds to NJBCT items, the answer folder will be scored and an NJBCT score will be reported.

Who Must Take NJBCT 2012? • ALL students enrolled in a qualifying first-time • high schoolBiology course during the 2011-12 school year regardless of grade level (grades 9-AH) & schedulingconfiguration • 11 = Resource Center Biology • 12 = ESL Biology • 22 = General Biology • 23 = Life Science • 24 = Foundations in Biology • 31 = College Prep Biology • 32 = Honors Biology • 33 = Accelerated Biology • 53 = Other (i.e., Cosmotology, Agricultural • Science)

  20. May 2012 NJBCT • Advanced Placement Biology: ONLY if student did NOT take aBiology prerequisite =41 • Integrated Science: ONLY if course is analternative to a Biology courseand NOT a prerequisite for a Biology course = 52

May 2012 NJBCT • For students without a Biology Pre-ID label • Requisite Biology Course code (11 – 52) • must be gridded in COURSE field. • Scheduling Configuration code • must be gridded in SCHED field: • F = Full Year - September to May/June • C = Current Semester - January to May/June • P = Previous Semester - September to December/January

May 2012 NJBCT • AT THIS TIME • Students who previously failed the May • 2008, May 2009, May 2010 or May 2011 • Biology test do NOT re-take the test • unless enrolled in a Biology course. • Returning Students do NOT take NJBCT. • There is no exempt from passing status. • (Leave answer folder blank).

May 2012 NJBCT • Overlapping College Board & NJBCT • dates should not be a problem since • not all AP Biology students take NJBCT. • If there is an overlap for those taking the • test, make-up test dates may be used. • (Our office accommodates districts on • an “as-needed basis” for alternate • schedules).
