  2. General Classroom Information • This classroom is an English Classroom for a high school class, either 9th or 10th grade. • Much of my classroom experience will be focused on class discussions and collaborative learning.

  3. Open Floor Space • The open floor space is very ideal for an English classroom. • I will often require my students to give presentations or create little skits that will help them to understand the material better. They will have a defined space to present them in. • Also, a significant part of English Education is focused on Theatre. If I have students act out scenes from a play we are reading, they will have ample room to perform.

  4. Layout of Desks • The layout of the desks is designed in a way that is ideal for classroom discussion. This setup allows for students to be able to see each other and engage in meaningful conversations. • This setup is also ideal for way I will teach. I move around when I teach, and this setup gives me a lot of space to move and engage the students in the material.

  5. Independent Computer Station • There are only two computers because this is a high school classroom, and computers are less likely to appear in the classrooms at these grade levels. • These computers would ideally be used for independent writing work. • The computers could also be used when group work is assigned and groups need quick assess to a computer.

  6. Teachers Desk • I placed my desk in a location that is out of the way of the students, but also easy to get to for every student. • It is in a corner that way when students are doing independent work or taking a test, they are not distracted by what I am doing at my desk.

  7. Bookshelves • Bookshelves are incredibly important in a English classroom. There is a bookshelf dedicated to me and any instructional materials I will need. On this bookshelf I can also keep some of my own personal books. • The second bookshelf is dedicated to students. This is where I will keep books that we will be reading in class. I will also put free read books on these shelves. I will make sure that these free read books are ones that will be of interest to the students, and they can borrow these books at their leisure.

  8. Whiteboard • This specific whiteboard will be used to write daily homework on. • Also on this board will be important school announcements about things happening within the school community. • A section of this whiteboard will be dedicated to what a proper heading on a paper should look like. • Although this whiteboard is behind some of the students, I believe that the location is fine. The students will not need to be referencing this whiteboard through the duration of class, they will just need to make sure they look at it before they leave the room.

  9. SmartBoard • The SmartBoard is placed in the front and center of the classroom. • The SmartBoard will be the main tool used for lessons. I will display Powerpoint presentations, show websites, and show sample papers on the SmartBoard. • I will also use the SmartBoard as a pseudo whiteboard, using the pens to write things on the board when they are brought up in class discussions.

  10. Front Table • This front table is the first thing students will encounter when they walk into the classroom. • On this table will be any handouts that the students will need for the class that day. • There will also be copies of important handouts that will be referenced throughout the year-paper formats, classroom rules, contact information.

  11. 2nd Whiteboard • This second whiteboard will be the vocabulary white board. • Each day, a new vocabulary word will be written on the whiteboard for the students to copy down into their notebooks. • There will also be a running list of the vocabulary words leading up to each test.

  12. Storage Shelves • These storage shelves are where I will keep all of the “extra” materials that we may need in the classroom. • Extra materials could include art supplies, extra paper and pencils, rulers, etc.

  13. Filing Cabinet • This is the filing cabinet where I will keep all of my own personal files. • The filing cabinet also helps to create a little nook where my desk is kept.
