  2. Verse for the day • Galatians 3:26-28 • So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

  3. Announcements • Did you turn in your assignments? • Memorize Exodus 20:2,3 p. 48; • Complete ITB #1-4 p. 48, 49 • Handout Lesson 5 • Test on Friday Lessons 4-7

How often were the Israelites to gather manna? 6 days of the week • 3. What happened if the people tried to keep manna overnight? It stank and spoiled. • 4. What did Moses do that affected the Israelite’s winning? He raised his hands and brought victory to Israel. • 5. When there was no water, what did the people do? Grumbled and complained. • 6. What did God tell Moses to do? Take his staff and speak to the rock. • 7. What was the result of Moses and Aaron’s disobedience? They couldn’t enter the Promised Land. • 8. How many times did Moses strike the rock? Twice

Student will be able to: • Explain what the Ten Commandments meant when they were given and explain how each commandment was a response to a particular human need; • Elaborate how the essential principles of the Ten Commandments apply to the student’s life today; • Explain how God’s moral law reveals the sinner’s need of Calvary; • Identify how the sanctuary prefigures God’s salvation in Christ as a response to human need.

  8. For the 1st time • Exodus 19 – God comes to directly meet His people • Israelites had ‘seen’ His actions • Now they are going to ‘meet’ Him

  9. What mountain did God give the 10 Commandments?What mountain did Moses receive his call – the burning bush? • Mt. Sinai

  10. During Moses’ meeting with God3 instructions were given for the people • 1. God reminds Israel what HE has done for them in rescuing them from Egypt • 2. God says that if the Israelites will ‘obey’ Him fully and ‘keep’ His covenants – they will be special to Him • 3. God says what He will do if Israel agrees to #2 – they will be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation

  11. Israel said YES • Do you know what the people were supposed to do to prepare to receive the covenant? • Wash their clothes • Clean Up • Consecrate themselves • BEFORE showing up at the foot of the mountain

  12. Reverence before God • Meeting God is not like meeting any other person. • Illustration – Dad and platform • Remind of what Dad did when the boys were playing in church • Before the Sabbath – prepare – shower, clothes – 30 minutes before the sun when down

  13. 3rd day • God descended to the top of the mountain • Thunder rolled • Lightening flashed • A cloud covered the mountain

  14. Exodus 19: 18, 19 • 18 Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because the LORD descended on it in fire. The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, and the whole mountain[a] trembled violently. • 19 As the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke and the voice of God answered him.

  15. The covenant was the Law • Remember – law is NEVER a means of salvation but it is always a result of salvation • The 10 Commandments demonstrate love – God’s love to us – and calls forth love – from us to God and other people.

  16. Remember the 10 Commandments? • 1. No other gods • 2. Not make idols • 3. Not misuse God’s name • 4. Remember the Sabbath • 5. Honor your parents • 6. No murder • 7. No adultery • 8. No stealing • 9. No lying • 10. No coveting
