  2. INTRODUCTION • Pack your bags and get your passports ready! You are going on a trip to two exciting world communities! Your fabulous four world community choices are Italy, India, Japan and Australia!

  3. A community is a place where people live, work and play together. A Country is a region or tract of land set apart by features of terrain and culture. Culture is the total way of life of a group of people. You will be learning about the country and culture of each world community you visit!

  4. YOUR TASK You will journey across the world to two countries using internet resources. You will… • take notes about the countries you visit. • compare and contrast the two countries you visit on a Venn-diagram. • present your findings in a format of your choice-poster, brochure, or written report.

  5. Procedure Step One: Choose the two communities you would like to visit. Click on the countries and images below that you are choosing and this will connect you to websites about the countries. IndiaItaly JapanAustralia

  6. Procedure Continued…. Step Two: To complete your journey, you will need to answer the following questions in an outline format for each country you have chosen.

  7. I. About the Country: 1. Where is it located? 2. What is the Climate like? 3. What are the different landforms found in the country? II. About the People: 1. How many people are in the country? 2. How many languages and/or what languages are spoken in the country? 3. Where do people live? 4. What do the people eat? 5. How do the people make a living? III. About the Culture: 1. What religions are practiced? 2. What is celebrated in the country (include Holidays and festivals) 3. What are some traditions or customs associated with this country?

  8. Procedure Continued Step Three: Compare and contrast the two countries you visited and researched on a Venn- Diagram (click on the word to make a printable graphic organizer)

  9. PROCEDURE CONTINUED Step Four: Organize the information you found on your two countries. Present your findings in a format of your choice- You can make a detailed poster, brochure or do a written report.

  11. Congratulations Your return flight home is now boarding! Now you know all about two fascinating world communities! Wherever people live they are part of a community. People in communities all over the world are similar and different in a variety of ways. **Think back to what you discovered about the two countries you visited, why do you think learning about these communities is important?**
