  1. PHYSIOTHERAPY 2014/15 pan-London planned commissioning position: maintain commissions at 228 Planning for this profession is led by Health Education North West London for the whole of London. • Existing and raised issues • A stakeholder engagement event was hosted by HENWL to discuss the proposed commissioning plan for 2014-15 on 24/9/13. The stakeholder group had concerns about the workforce data which was presented, specifically regarding: • Potential data gaps in the community sector • The impact of care delivered (and staffing) in the independent sector • The impact of re-configuration of services and out-of-hospital strategy • Inaccuracies with the coding of staff on ESR • Concerns that workforce planning may be financially driven rather than reflective of service need. • Due to these issues a decision was taken not to reduce commissions for physiotherapy in 2014/15, with a view to improving visibility of the whole workforce. Please note: 228 recommended commissions in 2013/14 compared to 233 actual starters • Rationale for decision • An oversupply is forecast for this profession, leading to 8.3% oversupply in 2018/19. • However, the oversupply would still be in a ‘safety buffer’ range in 2017/18, at less than 10%. • The projected oversupply will be monitored in future years, and commissioning may need to reduce if oversupply trend continues. • London workforce data 2013 A 8.2% oversupply is predicted in 2018/19.
