  1. Pharmaceutical products John Kevin R. Alberto IV – BSCT Chemical process and industry

  2. tABLET

  3. A tablet comprises a mixture of active substances and excipients, usually in powder form. Pressed or compacted from a powder into a solid dose.

  4. Lubricants • Disintegrant • Flavor • Pigments • Polymer coating

  5. Manufacture of the Tableting blend • Wet Granulation • Dry Granulation

  6. Wet Granulation • The active ingredient and excipients are weighed and mixed. • 2.The wet granulate is prepared by adding the liquid binder–adhesive to the powder blend and mixing thoroughly.

  7. 3. Screening the damp mass through a mesh to form pellets or granules. • 4. Drying the granulation. A conventional tray-dryer or fluid-bed dryer are most commonly used. • 5. After the granules are dried, they are passed through a screen of smaller size than the one used for the wet mass to create granules of uniform size.

  8. Dry Granulation Dry granulation processes create granules by light compaction of the powder blend under low pressures. The compacts so-formed are broken up gently to produce granules (agglomerates).

  9. Granule lubrication • involves low shear blending of the granules with a powdered lubricant

  10. manufacture • The powder is filled into the die from above. • the upper punch is lowered into the die and the powder is compressed to a porosity of between 5 and 20%. An old Cadmach rotary tablet press

  11. the upper punch is pulled up and out of the die • and the tablet is ejected from the die by lifting the lower punch until its upper surface is flush with the top face of the die

  12. Tablet coating • sugar-coating • Modern tablet coatings are polymerandpolysaccharide based withplasticizersand pigments

  13. cAPSULE

  14. Hard-shelled Soft-shelled

  15. Hard – Shelled capsules are made up of plant polysaccharides or their derivatives. Soft – Shelled capsules are made from animal protein mainly gelatin.

  16. Single-piece Gel encapsulation

  17. Two-piece gel Encapsulation

  18. Manufacturing process • Formulation • Granulation

  19. Encapsulation Process used to enclose medicines in a relatively stable shell known as a capsule.
