  2. "Scouting, also known as the Scout Movement, is a worldwide youth movement with the stated aim of supporting young people in their physical, mental and spiritual development, so that they may play constructive roles in society."

Mission Statement The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. Scout Law: A Scout is:TrustworthyLoyalHelpfulFriendlyCourteousKind ObedientCheerfulThriftyBraveCleanReverent Scout Oath: On my honor I will do my bestTo do my duty to God and my countryand to obey the Scout Law;To help other people at all times;To keep myself physically strong,mentally awake, and morally straight.

Community Programs: • Scouting for Food • 50,000 pounds of food to 100+ local food banks • 207 participated in National Youth Leadership Training • 23,000 traditional scouts and their leaders contributed more than 450,000 volunteer service hours, worth over $10,000,000 to our community • Boys’ Life Magazine, designed to promote literacy and character development in 6-14 year olds

  5. Douglas County Scouting • Youth Served:  4,900 • Adults Serving:  1,950 • 95,870 service hours in Douglas County • Worth $2,073,000 in volunteer service

  6. Improved Access has enabled: • Facility Rental Increase • More Service Projects for Community Organizations • New Scouting Units • Cleaner Schools • A Stronger Community • 457 Eagle Scouts in 2011 • 84,535 service hours • Eagle Projects totaling $1,827,646 to Denver Communities

  7. Growth of Scouting New Units – 9 An average new unit is 20 kids with 10 adult leaders Membership Growth – 5.5%

  8. Graduation Rate– Harris Interactive Study • 55.5% Hispanic Colorado Students • 80.2% Caucasian Colorado Students • 72.4% of Colorado High School Students Graduate • If a scout for 5 years, increases to 91% • Graduation from college (35 percent for scouts versus 19 percent non scouts)
