  1. SKILL RELATED FITNESS

  2. DEFINITION

  3. abilities or components are not the skills associated with any particular sport but are underlying skills which are brought to bear when participating in a sport • developed through practice • is the ability to perform efficiently in sports, daily activities and work-related activities • focuses on the performance in a sport • comprises of 6 components

  4. DEFINITION

  5. DEFINITION

  6. coordination • balance • agility • speed • power • reaction time

  7. COORDINATION

  8. WHY IS COORDINATION IMPORTANT? • Sports require physical actions that are controlled by the brain and it is virtually impossible to concentrate on all of these actions separately. You must be able to react to what you see and hear and your muscle groups have to work together in a controlled way

  9. WAYS TO IMPROVE! • practice sports that require ball • add more zinc • play video games

  10. BALANCE

  11. IMPORTANCE! • prevents injury

  12. TYPES! • balance between one side of the body and other side or muscle • physical sense of balance

  13. WAYS TO IMPROVE! • standing one leg • walking on narrow boards

  14. EQUIPMENT! • balance board test • bosu

  15. NOTES! • strength without balance is useless • balance training should be progressive

  16. AGILITY

  17. BENEFITS! • provide a strong foundation for neuromuscular control and motor skill functions • reduce risk injury • Heightened ability to change directions will enhance overall performance in oth proactive offensive and reactive defensive circumstances

  18. REQUIRES! • strength • power • balance • body control

  19. WAYS TO IMPROVE! • practice balance • stretch and warm up muscle • condition muscle

  20. SPEED

  21. coveted component of athletic performance • can be learned taught through motor-learning principle • it’s only through the practice of these motor skills and proper training

  22. COMPONENTS! • stride length • stride frequency

  23. MECHANICAL PRINCIPLES CONSIDERED • keep head steady • keep arms fixed at 90 degrees angle • proper foot and leg action

  24. POWER

  25. is equivalent of explosive strength

  26. COMPONENTS! • strength • power

  27. FACTORS! • muscle structure • muscle function • fiber type

  28. TASKS TO CONSIDER • Low power task • High power task

  29. REACTION TIME

  30. sum of reaction time and movement time • a primary factor affecting a response is the number of possible stimuli, each requiring their own response (simple reaction and choice reaction time) • is an inherent ability but overall response time can be improved by practice

  31. THINGS TO CONSIDER! • detecting cue • detecting relevant cues • decision making • change attention • controlling anxiety • warm up

  32. ANTICIPATION!

  33. FACTORS! • Gender and age • Level of fitness • Number of possible responses • Time available • Anticipation

  34. FACTORS! • Intensity of stimuli • Experience • Body temperature • Personality • Stage of alertness

  35. WAYS TO IMPROVE! • Lying down sprint

  36. CONCLUSION! • it is very helpful when one intends to take up a specific sport • it is tailor-made to suit the requirements of the mind as well as the particular activity • You can speed up your improvement by training the individual aspects specifically
