One Health Collaboration • OH collaboration can help to maximize resource optimization; reduce duplication of effort; improve evidence to inform policy; support timely disease detection, preparedness and response for outbreak investigation; • Collaborations can strengthen: • Surveillance and information sharing; • Response to PHEs; • Risk Reduction; • Collaborative research partnerships.

One Health Collaboration Historical OH Collaborations: • Country Coordinating Committees (RESPOND/EPT) • OHCEA (RESPOND/EPT; EPT2) • One Health Tanzania • Multi-sectoral national task forces to address Avian Influenza and Rift Valley Fever • Many multi-sectoral efforts have been conducted in Tanzania without the “One Health” label. These efforts have been largely emergency-based and have garnered a large amount of good-will toward collaboration.

  6. Collaboration Mapping Exercise • Collaboration Mapping is an exercise to help understand existing relationships with key stakeholders; • A tool that can help coordinate efforts among various stakeholders with a shared goal or interest; • Can serve as a monitoring tool for stakeholder engagement.

Collaboration Mapping Exercise – Process • Adapted from USAID/Rwanda Tool • 30+ interviews via phone and in-person to better understand: • Who are you collaborating with most frequently? • Where does your funding come from? Government / Donors? • Do you provide funding to support other partners in One Health activities? • What challenges / opportunities for OH implementation exist in Tanzania? • What is your role in One Health in Tanzania? • Desktop and Document Review • Mapping Exercise

  8. Collaboration Mapping Exercise – Disclaimers • Still in draft form – validation / inputs; • An evolving and dynamic map that is always changing; • ‘Final’ version and supporting information available to the OHCU for program planning / coordination support.
