  7. Chicago Public Schools9/6/2011 email – Don Yanek (Chicago CSTA) • Three years ago I asked three local university CS professors*  to work with me on getting National Science Foundation funding to reshape computer science education in the Chicago Public Schools.  My vision was [and is] that every high school student has access to at least one true CS class. • Our group decided to seek a National Science Foundation research grant.  I am happy to say that after two very thoughtful rejections, our third proposal [Collaborative Research: Type I: Taste of Computing: Adding a CS Entree to the Education Choices in a Large Urban School District ] has been accepted for funding!!   All three years of our research proposal have been fully approved and funded at $756,000!!!  As a high school teacher and CSTA member, I am very proud to be listed as a CO-PI on this grant.**

  8. Chicago Public Schools9/6/2011 email – Don Yanek (Chicago CSTA) • The plan includes training all Chicago Public CS teachers in the new Exploring Computer Science curriculum. • The NSF grant will also enable teachers to earn college credit for the training they receive. This grant will help make it possible for us to transform Computer Science education and instruction for the nearly 450,000 Chicago Public School students.
