  7. Catalyst: Welcome Back • Objectives • I can set meaningful and attainable goals for second semester. • I can collaborate with my classmates in order to learn more about how we can learn from each other. • Take out a piece of paper and title it: “Chemistry Semester 2” • Write for five minutes answering any or all of the following questions: • What were the best parts of your winter break? • What are you looking forward to in 2014? • What are your academic goals for spring semester? • How will you achieve those goals? • Agenda • Catalyst Share Out • Semester 2 Overview • Challenge: Semester 2 Jeopardy

  8. Catalyst Share Out • Your partner is the person sitting next to you. • The older person will share first. • You have 2 minutes to share what you wrote. • If you are the listener, take notes. • We will switch after 2 minutes. • Then, at least 5 students will share what their partner told them. Use your notes.

  9. Catalyst Share Out Over winter break, I really enjoyed going whale watching with my boyfriend. In 2014, I look forward to meeting my best friend Emily’s new baby boy. One of my academic goals is to push all students to complete more challenging activities and shoot for an “A” or “4” on all assignments.

  10. Setting goals • People that write down their specific and measurable goals are more likely to succeed. • What do you want to accomplish this year? • Example: I want to be more organized. I will set up my binder and keep my work in the correct sections. Are your goals specific and measurable? Write down 2 steps that you can take in the next 2 weeks to begin to work towards your goals.

In the last 15 minutes of class we will play jeopardy to test your knowledge. • Semester 2 Covers the following topics: • Gas Laws (3.5 weeks) • Temperature and Thermodynamics (2 weeks) • Reaction Rates and Equilibrium (3 weeks) • Nuclear Chemistry (3 weeks) • Organic Chemistry and Energy (3 weeks) Benchmark 3 covers these topics
