CPC31011 - Certificate III in Solid Plastering Get skilled in applying plain, decorative and protective coverings of plaster, cement or similar materials to the interiors and exteriors of structures. Learn to use solid plastering tools and equipment, apply float and render to straight and curved surfaces, install cast plaster and paper- faced cornice, level and smooth for an even surface, apply finishing coats for a smooth finish or decorative texture – such as Queensland heritage listed moulds. Description This course reflects the role of plasterers working in a range of residential or commercial workplaces to apply decorative and protective coverings of plaster, cement or similar materials to the interiors and exteriors of buildings. This qualification provides a trade outcome in solid plastering in the residential and commercial construction industry. Occupational titles may include: •Fibrous Plasterer (Commercial and Domestic) •Plasterer (Solid) The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as specialist fields of work. The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered in this context. The qualification aims are: •To develop safe work practices •To provide hand skills using tool, equipment and materials of the trade •To provide skills used in the production, installation and finishing in the trade •To measure and record accurately •To read drawings and specifications •To develop innovative and problem-solving skills •To develop communication skills •To develop team working skills • To develop an overall knowledge of the building industry and the range of businesses and occupations within it. Note: Completion of the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2007) is required before entering a construction work site. Achievement of unit CPCCOHS1001A covers this requirement. Who is the course for? CPC31011 - Certificate III in Solid Plastering is for new and existing workers who are currently employed in a relevant position and wanting to work toward completing the qualification. Be currently employed and consequently have access to an operative work site and all resources required to undertake their work functions (and the training). These workers will: •Be currently employed and consequently have access to an operative work site and all resources required to undertake their work functions (and the training). •Be over 18 years old As students these workers will: •Be currently working so will require on-work site training. •Be looking to have their previous and current skills and knowledge recognised i.e. CT & RPL (see below) with remaining skills and knowledge trained and assessed on site through gap training. Training and assessment methods: Delivery is through a combination of face to face, self-paced and work-based learning. Most of the training and assessment is undertaken on your work site. Course duration: The course is structured to be delivered over 20 months however students can take up to 4 years if necessary Course cost: $15,000 Payment plan: 10 monthly payments per year of $500 over 3 years RPL cost: $300 administration fee, plus $150 per unit assessment fee. Gap fees for training are charged at $490 per unit. Location: All training occurs in the workplace under the supervision of a workplace supervisor. This may be your employer or a nominated person. The supervisor liaises with the trainer/assessor. All work-based (practical assessment) takes place in the workplace and any theoretical assessments may occur offsite. Entry requirements As part of the enrolment process, you will need to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment which will be used to assess the LLN ability. Pathways into the Qualification Further training pathways from this qualification may include other higher-level Construction Qualifications such as CPC40611 Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Specialist Trades), CPC40708 Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Trade Contracting) or other relevant qualifications. Resources required: Students are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements in practical classes, which include: •safety glasses - students must wear these always in the workshop or any eye hazard area as specified by the teacher •protective footwear - covered uppers, steel capped toes and non-slip shoes to AS2210 •hand protection - long leather gloves to AS2161 •hair protection - long hair (i.e. hair below collar length) must be restrained (hat, headband, or hair tie) •industrial type clothing (100% cotton drill). Students failing to meet these minimum standards of dress will not be permitted entry in to practical classes. Students must also be equipped with a pen and notepad for theory training in the classroom. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is the process of recognising your current skills and knowledge based on prior learning and work experience, against Units of Competency listed in the Training Plan. Where you identify having prior training (from a current or superseded training package) or experience that may contribute towards RPL of a Unit of Competency, you will be provided with the opportunity to undertake an RPL pathway. The RPL process will include the collection of information and details on your previous experience through the completion of an RPL kit and the completion of a Competency Conversation with a qualified Trainer/Assessor. In completing the Competency Conversation, you will be required to confirm your skills and knowledge in each Unit of Competency that the RPL is being applied for. This will include completion of questions to confirm an understanding of the required knowledge and the demonstration of relevant skills through Trainer/Assessor observations applicable to the Unit of Competency. The Competency Conversation may occur at your workplace or within our premises Credit Transfer You may be eligible for a credit transfer if you have previously undertaken training through a Registered Training Organisation.   4. 20 units of competency: •15 core units •5 elective units. A maximum of one of the five required elective units may be substituted by selecting relevant units of competency from any Certificate III or IV construction qualification or qualification in another endorsed Training Package. Some units in this qualification may have prerequisite requirements, which must be met when packaging the qualification.
