National Home Energy Conference • Key Components of Woking’s Progress • Corporate Commitment – in the opinion of the community in Woking environment is the second priority after affordable housing • Cross Political Party agreement and coordination • Corporate Energy Efficiency Strategy from 1990/91 with targets supported by financial structures to implement a range of initiatives • Energy Conservation & Sustainable Communities – long term relationship • Public Private Partnership “ESCO” established 1999 - Thameswey Limited and Thameswey Energy limited • Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2001 • Climate Change Strategy adopted December 2002 • Beacon Council 2005- 2006 – Sustainable Energy

National Home Energy Conference Woking’s Corporate Commitment • Cross political party working since the early 1990’s. • Delivery directed by a cross party Climate Change Working Group led by Executive and Overview & Scrutiny Members and reporting directly to the Executive. • Proactive support for Local Agenda 21 voluntary group. • Target of 50% improvement in energy efficiency in Council buildings by 2010. • Target for self generation of Council power requirements of 100% from sustainable sources including 20% from renewable sources by 2010.

National Home Energy Conference Woking’s Corporate Achievements So Far • 51% improvement in energy efficiency in Council buildings achieved @ March 2006 • 79% reduction in CO2 equivalent emissions in Council buildings achieved @ March 2006 • 82% of Council power requirements self generated from sustainable sources in 2005/06 including 11% from renewable sources.
