  3. EXCEL • It is a powerful spreadsheet program that allows you to • organize data • complete calculations • make decisions • graph data • develop professional looking reports • publish organized data to the web • access real time data

  4. EXCEL • Large Matrix program • 65,536 rows and 256 columns • Basic building block is called a cell • A cell contains a text description, value or formula/function • A cell is the intersection of a column and row

  5. EXCEL • Four major parts of Excel: • Worksheets (spreadsheets) • Charts –pictorially represent data • Database- Manage data, excel can sort and search data • Web support- excel can be on the web, and used for real time data

  6. EXCEL Formulas • Begin with an equal sign and include at least one arithmetic operator • Examples • =B1 + B2 • =A5 + 20 • =d12-D13 • =A3*d10-b4 • =f20/3 • =C15*10%

  7. Operators • + - * / ^ The order: Exponentiation,Multiplication and division (left to right), Addition and Subtraction(left to right) =10 + 4/2 • 10 + 4 = 14/2=7 • 4/2 = 2+10 = 12 You can change the order thru parentheses =(10 +4)/2
