  5. RATING CHAIN • Rater (Immediate supervisor for 90 days) • Senior Rater (Direct line of supervision for two rated months) • Reviewer (Officer, WO, E-9)

  6. TYPES OF REPORTS • Annual • Change-of-rater (90 days minimum) • Complete-the-record • Relief-for-cause

  7. COUNSELING • Primary purpose: improve performance & professionally develop the NCO

  8. THE BEST COUNSELING IS ALWAYS FORWARD LOOKING.

  9. COUNSELING AT THE END OF THE RATING PERIOD IS TOO LATE.

  10. COUNSELING CHECKLIST • Follow the sequence on DA Form 2166-7-1

  11. RULES TO REMEMBER • Face-to-face counseling is mandatory • Must use DA Form 2166-7-1 • Initial counseling must be done within the first 30 days of each rating period
