  2. Purpose • Provide NSBE Leadership training • Create a basic understanding of the habits of a successful NSBE Jr. Chapter • Create a basic understanding of an effective executive board

  3. The Chapter Skeleton • Advisor • General Body Members (GBM) • Executive Board (E-Board)

  4. Good E-board….Bad E-board • Mock Executive Board Meeting • 5 Volunteers • Choose positions from a container • 10 minutes to try and achieve task while acting out position • Task Create and begin to plan a fundraising event for the chapter.

Habits of an Awesome E-board! • Communication is KEY! • Have everyone’s contact information on file • Set up a general e-mail account • Be professional at all times • Respect everyone regardless of position • Respect tasks and deadlines • Establish a code of conduct/order • Parliamentary procedure* • Penalties for disorderly conduct • Always consider the General Body Members • You represent them, and don’t forget to include them in certain aspects of the organization.

  6. Organization • In order for the chapter to function properly the e-board needs to be as organized as possible. • Weekly E-board meetings(w/min. & agenda) • E-mail account • Active advisor • Establishment of each position and its powers • Constitution/by-laws** **extra

Organization Pt II • There should be a general body meeting at least once a week. • A proper GBM agenda • Advisor should be present* • All officers should be present • Use the general body meetings to: • Provide updates • Have STEM related activities • Create the priceless NSBE family bond What else do you think general body meetings should be used for?

  8. Making Your Chapter Official • Official NOL Registration ($5.00/person) • Officially declared active as a chapter on NOL Advisor Confirmation Principal Confirmation 5 Paid members

Boost Your Chapter Swag • Recruit Pamphlets Flyers Information sessions Events • Maintain Keep the membership motivated Point System w/ rewards or privileges Committees GPA levels • Represent Know & understand the NSBE mission Uphold the NSBE mission Have a basic knowledge of NSBE history/Leaders Attend Zone/Regional/National Conferences if possible

  10. Get Money …. Yeah!!!!! • Fundraising is a great way to create financial stability for your chapter and fund certain activities or projects. What ideas can you think of to raise money for your chapter?

  11. Get Money….Yeah!!!! Pt II • Bake Sales • Showcases • Concerts • General Donation Box • Candy Selling • Corporate Sponsorship • NOL Chapter Relief • Competitions • Dances

Last But Not Least…. • Positively Impacting Your Community “To increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community.” - NSBE Mission • Community Service to Do as A Group Walks(AIDS/Breast Cancer/AWFE/March of Dimes) Tutoring Programs Donating Christmas gifts to underprivileged children Plant a tree (or two ..or three..the more the better) Clean up a park Fundraise for a society
