  2. NATIONAL CONTRACT MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE This is a busy time for the Fort Monmouth NCMA Chapter. The National Education Seminar this March is the largest event of the year and our principal fundraiser. An early thanks to Paul Rosengrant, VP for Programs and NES Chair, but to others as well, such as Brittney Benincasa, Registrar, P.J. Gilmartin, Treasurer and a POC for NES, and Joanne Botwinick, Chapter Secretary and also a POC for NES. Others are helping too, and many thanks for volunteers coming forward. As this is written before the NES date, we are doing well with registration, with higher numbers than in recent years, even with reduced membership. Speaking of membership, our VP for Membership, Celeste, tells us of more member applications. Interest is building within the newest intern contingent at CECOM Acquisition Center, but also we are hearing from a few others of the wider Central Jersey area. It looks like our rolls will be growing, which is remarkable in spite of the shifts and challenges to the DoD workforce at or near Fort Monmouth as budgets impact civil service manloading. Or maybe it is because of those shifts. Things are happening at NCMA national headquarters level too. I spoke earlier of a new management structure. We will no longer have a National Director in our Chapter. The chapter president will assume more communication duties with the national and regional levels. There will be twoRegional Directors for each of the regions in lieu of the one National VP for the region and the chapter National Directors. Our own Lori Sakalos here at Fort Monmouth has been the National Vice President for the Northeast Region this year. Terry Brewer of a West Virginia chapter and the current National VP for NE Region elect will be one of the new Regional Directors. Another will be chosen in an election under way as these notes are written. Some of this was discussed at the combined Middle Atlantic and Northeast Regional Leaders Conference in New York City this past January. This was a successful event that covered such things as the transition of our management of NCMA to better serve the upcoming membership. Lori Sakalos was the lead on arranging details of this meeting at the Crowne Plaza, Times Square, while our own P.J. Gilmartin handled most of the registration and payment duties before, during, and after this conference. These are people that not only make things happen, but see them through. We are now looking for a slate of candidates for Fort Monmouth Area Chapter officers for the new year starting in July. There is gratifying interest in this process, and we hope to settle on the choice of our new officer candidates later this month. Members will participate in the election process of the volunteers that are being nominated. There is much left to do this year, but much has been done so far. My thanks to you all for the support that has made this possible and I express my hopes for the fulfillment of the promise that seems to be happening for the continued success for this Chapter in the years ahead. 11. NATIONAL CONTRACT MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION CERTIFICATION OPPORTUNITY ~ Now Available ~ Commercial Knowledge module of the Certified Commercial Contracts Manager (CCCM) program A note from Cordell Hansen, VP of Professional Development, Tysons Corner, Virginia Chapter, about the on-line study groups available: “We've been developing online study groups for a few months now. The structure is in place and we have taken in NCMA members from all across the country. If your members would like to join, they are certainly welcome; and the study groups are free. My philosophy has been that the more people we have studying together from different backgrounds, the better the study experience will be... There are currently three individual study groups - General, Federal and Commercial. Each has a separate study plan that lasts ten weeks. I generally recommend that members focus their studies on one module at a time.” If you are interested in joining a study group on-line, please contact Cordell Hansen at Cordell_R_Hansen@raytheon.com. If you have any questions, please contact Michael Ellis, Certification Chair of the Fort Monmouth Chapter at 732 530 8444, ext 3323 or email: Michael.Ellis@ilex.com. Back to Page 1
