Since 2003, OCEF(Overseas China Education Foundation) and EEP

(Enlightenment Education Project) have a collaboration project to

build schools in rural China (in Sichuan, Guizhou and Guangxi). In

October 2003, I joined a group of EEP volunteers for a school

inspection trip. All volunteers paid for the trip cost themselves.

On top of one classroom door, hangs a picture of Lei Feng–a

selfless role model promoted by the government in early 60s.

A relic of time one does not see any more in big cities.

The muddy road leading to Feng–a

a school we were going to

visit. A group of kids

passed us quickly, chasing

each other and running with

hearty laughers. Sorry, at the

moment I was too busy

keeping balance for myself

to take a picture.

The kids were playing in front of the new school. This school has

about 80 kids, divided to three grades and taught by two teachers.

Both teachers have been teaching there for almost 30 years and are

approaching retirement age. They are concerned if there will new

teachers to continue their work.
