  9. Grammar Spot Verb Classes • Verbs 3. Full Verbs: (e.g. run, play, write, etc.) • Auxiliary verbs • (e.g. do, be, have) 2.Modal Auxiliary Verbs:(e.g. must, should, can, will, would.) (Used to form sentences, questions, and negatives) (helping verbs, but have meaning in their own)

  12. Tenses and Auxiliary verbs 1. Be + Verb+ ing = continuous form

  14. Tenses and Auxiliary verbs Have + past participle = perfect form Present perfect= before now/ Past perfect= before sometime in the past

  15. Tenses and Auxiliary Verbs To make negative add (n’t) to the auxiliary verb. If there is no auxiliary use don’t, doesn’t, didn’t

  16. Tenses and Auxiliary Verbs To make a question, invert the subject and the auxiliary verb. (If there is no auxiliary verb, use do, does, did. )

  18. Look at the auxiliary! • We are learning English. • English is spoken all over the world. • I don’t like maths. • Do you smoke? • Why didn’t you come to the party? • I haven’t had anything to eat today. • What does your father do? ---------- (prepare a quiz for your colleagues)

  19. Short answers Short answers are very common in spoken English. We use short answers after yes/no question. To make a short answer repeat the auxiliary. If there is no auxiliary, use do/does/did.
