Since there was only one person who ran for sponsorship officer, and the position requires two officers, we are opening the position up again.

If you are interested in running for the other sponsorship officer, please send me your photo and platform (1-3 paragraphs about yourself and why you want to be sponsorship officer).

Photo/Platforms are due to me by Thursday at 5PM, and the polls will open that night and close at Sunday at 5PM.

Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Relief Fund

A devastating earthquake (8.9 magnitude) hit Japan on March 11. It struck Japan near the city of Sendai, which caused damage and generated a powerful tsunami which struck northern Japan and spread across the Pacific. I have family and friends in Japan and luckily I received confirmation that they are safe, but I know many people over there have lost their loved ones, their homes, their everything.

There are two ways you can help!

i. We will be collecting money for the American Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Relief Fund all this week. The table will be on the first floor of the HUB (by the big screen TV) from 9AM to 4PM Tuesday (3/15) to Friday (3/18). I think it would be great if we could have 1-3 people each shift collecting money. Please sign up for a couple shifts, we need all the help we can get!

ii. Text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 to the Japan and Pacific tsunami relief. Your $10 gift to the American Red Cross will support our disaster relief efforts to help those affected by the earthquake in Japan and tsunami throughout the Pacific. On those rare occasions when donations exceed American Red Cross expenses for a specific disaster, contributions are used to prepare for and serve victims of other disasters.

Relay for Life

We are making a difference by teaming up to participate in the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life*Friday-Saturday, April 8th-9th (5pm-5pm)

At the event, our team will camp out overnight and take turns walking around the track to raise money and awareness to help the American Cancer Society create a world with less cancer and more birthdays.

Please join our team or make a donation. The impact we can make together is much greater than what any of us could do alone!

E-mail Julie ASAP if interested in joining a team and she will contact you with instructions on how to sign up!

You need to have either been an active member last semester or have obtained at least 7 hours of volunteering at a BLOOD DRIVE this semester to begin training.

New OSC training date/ dates will begin in late March before our spring campaign depending on interest.*Looking at having one after the meeting on 3/28*Be on the look-out for announcements about this!

PTTR is THIS SATURDAY! Be excited. Tickets are $15 for club members who were active last semester and/or have 7 hours this semester. They are $30 for student date and $75 for community members. I will be selling tickets after the meeting, so be sure to come and get one from me! We will also be selling them during office hours in our office (221C HUB).

Remember, this is a formal event, so be sure to wear those awesome dresses and suits. It starts at 6pm at the Nittany Lion Inn, so be sure to be there. There will be silent auction and raffle items such as a 5 night stay in Avalon, 4 tickets to a Penguins game, 2 tickets to a Penn State football game with luxury box access, nice jewelery, etc. That will be followed by an awesome dinner and then dancing (dancing is not mandatory). Also, I don't think this really needs to be said, but do not show up intoxicated.

If you happened to bring prizes or cereal boxes back from home, please drop them off at the chapter or in our HUB office (221C) asap. Thanks!

PTTR Decorating

We're going to be setting up for the event at the Nittany Lion Inn. I'm going to need a bunch of people to both help move items from the chapter office to the NLI (we will need drivers) and to set up decorations (such as the balloon arch) at the NLI. We will be working from 2-5pm, but if you can help for even an hour, we'd appreciate it! E-mail me to let me know you can come!

We're currently waiting on an updated list of comfort kit items. If you would like to sign up to bring in a few items, please email [email protected] for the link.

Classroom Announcements

We need help with classroom announcements! Please see if you are in any of these classes or if you are available at any of these times! You get a whole volunteer hour for 2 minutes of work, and what you have to say is already written out for you!!!

Outdoor Recruiting

We need help with outdoor recruiting the entire week (March 21st - 25th). It is essentially the same as recruiting as a blood drive volunteer except that you will be recruiting for FUTURE blood drives, not a blood drive happening on the same day. The shifts are hour long shifts just like normal! If you can spare even an hour, that would be so helpful!
