Towards the end of the 1960s ,
a new group appeared. Their ideas
started in California in the USA.
This new group was the Hippies.
They introduced the philosophy
of love and peace, they gave flowers
to strangers in the streets
to surprise them.They opposed the accepted standards of
The name “hippies’’ comes from the fact that drug-takers in Asia and in the Far East used to lie on one hip while smoking drugs. Due to the word “hip” they were called “Hippies” smoking drugs too.
They showed their protest by dressing in unusual clothes. They enjoyed wearing cheesecloth kaftans and baggy trousers. They liked wearing ethnic jewellery and other accessories.
They wore sandals or walked barefoot. They also wore untidy and ripped clothes, Which they often customized with embroidery. Hippies were the first to wear Afghan coats and headbands.
