The Time before Christmas

Christmas time starts four weeks before Christmas.

It is called „Advent“.

Calendars - the last on 24th December. Mostly there is a piece of

chocolate in it.

Christmas Biscuits

Christmas biscuits recipes

Vanilla Kipfel

180g flour

70g almond meal knead together

salt bake 15 – 20 minutes at 170°C

1 egg

Dark Christmas Biscuits

400g flour

2 spoons cocoa

2 packets chocolate pudding

1packet backing powder knead together

350g sugar bake 15 – 20 minutes at 170°C

2 packets vanilla sugar

6 spoons milk

250g margarine

130g desiccated coconut

50g almond meal 

Cream Biscuits

500g flour knead together, keep 1 night in fridge,

500g butter knead together again, roll out the mixture (1cm),

4 spoons cream sprinkle sugar on it, cut it into squares

bake 15 – 20 minutes at 170°C

St Nikolaus (Nicholas) Day

On 5th December all

children clean their shoes.

In the night between 5th

and 6th December St

Nicholas puts presents

in the clean boots of the

„good“ kids.

Christmas holidays are from 24th to 26th December.

Most people work on 24th until midday, a lot can also stay at

home or do their Christmas shopping.

The 25th and the 26th are official holidays.

  • The Christmas tree is set up in the living room in the morning of the 24th December.
  • We use conifers as Chrismas tree and decorate them with baubles, tinsel, straw stars and candles.
  • Under the tree are a crib and the Christmas presents.
  • After Christmas the trees are burned.

play (Krippenspiel) that shows the story of Jesus‘ birth.

under it secretly.

presents to the kids.

Then they have to sing a song or

tell a poem to get the presents.

If the kids had not been nice

Santa Clause could beat them

with a stick, but he doesn‘t

usually do that.
