Learning From Practice:A Professional Development Guide for Legal Externs • First edition 1998 West Publishing (including Teacher’s Manual)—launched with first U.S. externship conference at The Catholic University of America • Second edition 2007 West (with Teacher’s Manual) • Editors: J.P. (Sandy) Ogilvy, Leah Wortham, Lisa Lerman
A little more history • 1st edition grew from Catholic University Becoming a Lawyer course • Authors people teaching in CUA program along with Liz Ryan Cole, Vermont Law School • 15 chapters • 2nd edition added 8 new authors from other U.S. law schools • 20 chapters
And this summer • 3rd edition underway with West Publishing • New editorial team: Leah Wortham, Susan Brooks, Nancy Maurer, Alex Scherr • 29 chapters & 35 authors including a person specific to multimedia resources
Timeline • 2nd drafts underway but still much a work in progress with room for revision • Will be print book & teacher’s manual out by spring 2015 but also • Electronic version & option to buy chapter bundles
International use? • Electronic version might facilitate • Possibility of national supplements? • More Americans in internationalplacements
