  2. Background • AASHTO is updating its Strategic Plan • SCOH wants to update its plan, align with AASHTO Strategic Plan • Current SCOH Strategic Plan from 1998 • SCOH wants to engage, coordinate more with Subcommittees to support AASHTO goals SCOH Strategic Plan

SCOH Strategic Plan AASHTO Plan Changes • Finding additional revenue remains Board’s top goals • Funding dominated all other issues • Board believes transportation must demonstrate tangible results in order to receive funding • Sets goal to cut fatalities in half by 2030 • Wants to contribute on climate change, energy conservation • Seeks to lead on setting performance measures

  4. Four AASHTO Goals • Two are policy goals, two are technical • Re-establish transportation as a national priority • Advocate and communicate to achieve AASHTO’s goals • Provide world-class technical services • Assist state DOTs with leadership and performance SCOH Strategic Plan

SCOH Plan Efforts • Analyzed, ranked AASHTO Objectives for a SCOH focus • Reviewed 42 CEO interviews from the AASHTO Plan • Interviewed 20 key stakeholders for SCOH Plan • Analyzed 314 survey responses for the AASHTO Plan • Analyzed 367 survey responses for the SCOH Plan • Workshop May 14 and May 15 in Bedford Springs • Focus on Vital Few :Selected Top 10 Objectives SCOH Strategic Plan

  6. Calls for SCOH Leadership There was a clear sentiment expressed for SCOH to lead “The U.S. is in desperate need of leadership that is engineer-based and as free as possible from political influences.” SCOH survey respondent SCOH Strategic Plan

The Intent of the 10 Workgroups • An effort to strategically engage the subcommittees • Be more engaged in contributing their expertise to assist the Board of Directors • An effort to tap expertise of subcommittees and direct it toward AASHTO’s major objectives • Address cross-cutting issues collaboratively • Create synergy SCOH Strategic Plan

  14. SCOH Understands • The subcommittees have many other important efforts in place and want to ensure those efforts continue • Does not want to limit subcommittee activities • However wants to tap into your expertise on this important initiative SCOH Strategic Plan
