  2. Meridian Elementary is locate in Broomfield, Colorado. The grades served at Meridian include Kindergarten through Fifth grade. The library is designated as a “Power Library.” The Power Library Program is a statewide program in Colorado that recognizes Teacher-Librarian, classroom teacher and student collaboration. The program is designed to promote student achievement (Colorado Department of Education, 2010). The school was established in 2004. School Population Demographics • Student Enrollment: 640 • Race Statistics (Adams, 2009). • White: 84.84% • Hispanic: 6.72% • African-American: 1.25% • Asian: 7.03% • Native American: 0.16% • Free and reduced lunch: 3.75% • Grades K-5 • 3-5 classes per grade • Average classroom size: 24 (Weese, 2008).

  4. Local Libraries Mamie Doud Eisenhower Public Library College Hill Library Located in Westminster about 10 minutes (driving) from Meridian Elementary. Offer several different online tools for students, reading programs, homework help, and more (Westminster, 2010). • Broomfield Library • Located about 10 minutes (driving) away from Meridian. • The library provides many services for students including online homework help, reading programs, databases, and many more resources (Broomfield, 2010).

City of Broomfield Cont. • Crime Rates • The crime rate as of 2006 was 22.6 serious crimes per 1,000 residents. • The crime rate in Broomfield has steadily decreased in the past 30 years (Broomfield, 2010). • Employment • Total labor force: 29,786 • Employed: 27,577 • Unemployment rate: 7.4% • Churches • Broomfield has over 40 churches throughout the city. • Predominately Christian denominations. • Politics • Broomfield has one Representative in the House, Diane Primavera, a Democrat. • In the 2004 election, the majority of Broomfield voters chose President Bush. • Over the past few years, it appears Broomfield does not lean toward one political party over the other.
