  1. MATERIALS WORKSHOP FOR THE REFINING AND PETROCHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Sponsored By Presented By Date: November 30, 2007 Time: 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Location: Cara Suites, Claxton Bay Cost: Free Registration Deadline: November 9, 2007 ABOUT NICKEL The Nickel Institute is the market development and applications research organization of the primary nickel industry. It was founded in 1984 and now has 13 sponsoring companies representing the world's refining, petrochemical, mining, and smelting industries. Nickel Institute directs its worldwide program from headquarters in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

  2. MATERIALS WORKSHOP FOR THE REFINING AND PETROCHEMICAL INDUSTRIES TOPICS The speakers will present the following topics, with the focus on applications in the refining and petrochemical industries: • Corrosion Mechanisms • - Low temperature corrosion, including general corrosion, • crevice corrosion • pitting corrosion • stress corrosion cracking • API Fitness for Service guidelines on assessing corrosion damage • - High temperature corrosion, including oxidation, • sulfidation • carburization • metal dusting • nitridation • hot corrosion • Nickel Containing Materials • - Stainless steels, including the duplex stainless steels • - Nickel alloys • - Wrought and cast materials - the advantages and disadvantages of each • Material Selection • - Refining processes • Major petrochemical processes • Fabrication and Design • Designing for corrosion resistance • Designing for high temperature resistance • Casting design and quality • Welding and repair welding

  3. MATERIALS WORKSHOP FOR THE REFINING AND PETROCHEMICAL INDUSTRIES INTENDED FOR The presentation is of interest and value to those involved in material selection, material engineering, production, inspection, maintenance and design. Program objectives: There are several objectives to the workshop. For the experienced designer, engineer and metallurgist, it provides a review of established principles of design, application and fabrication and gives an update on recent materials developments as they relate to the refining and petrochemical processing industries. For the less experienced personnel it is an excellent introduction to the problems that can be encountered in a refining or petrochemical environment and how these problems can be overcome. The ultimate goal is to improve the utilization of materials through proper design, material selection, and fabrication.

  4. MATERIALS WORKSHOP FOR THE REFINING AND PETROCHEMICAL INDUSTRIES DISCUSSION LEADERS Donald L. Bagnoli Mr. Bagnoli was Senior Associate Engineer at Mobil Technology Company, Paulsboro NJ, for 17 years prior to his retirement. He provided consulting services for Mobil refineries and chemical plants worldwide and was Group Leader of the Failure Analysis Group for several years. Mr. Bagnoli has an ME and an MS in metallurgy from Stevens Institute of Technology and is a member of ASME and NACE, and has been active in the API 579 committee on Fitness for Service. He has devoted much of his time to issues related to fitness for service/remaining life, failure analysis and high temperature metallurgy. He has over 20 publications in ASME/PVP, NACE, ASM AIChE, API and has co-edited several ASME/PVP session proceedings. Donald J. Tillack Mr. Tillack held various technical positions at Inco Alloys International (now Special Metals Corp.) for 30 years before retiring and forming his own metallurgical consulting company in 1992. He specializes in stainless steel and nickel alloy selection, failure analysis, applications and welding and is the author of numerous technical papers and handbook articles. His committee responsibilities have included: Chairman of the Welding of Metals and Alloys (G2) committee of AWS Chairman of the Welding of Stainless Steel and Nickel Alloys committee of the Welding Research Council Chairman of the High Temperature Materials Performance (T-5B/STG-37) Committee of NACE He is a Life Member and a Fellow of ASM International, and a member of NACE International and the American Welding Society. He is a metallurgical engineering graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
