  2. Needle History... The space needle was created for the 1962 worlds fair in Seattle. The creator was Edward E Carlson. He was the head of Western International hotels. Edwards first sketch was on a coffee shop’s placemat. The creation was based on the Stuttgart tower in Germany, along with the Eiffel tower in Paris. The proposed needle had no land on which to be built on. It had not been financed by the city , land had to be bought off the fairground. Investors thought that there would be no space to build a tower. But they found land!!! It sold for 75,000$. As a record while being built, the needle was taller than the smith tower across town!!!!!!

Space Needle Features • The observation deck is 520ft from ground level. • Sky City restaurant is 500ft from ground level. • The foundation is 30ft deep. 20ft wide. • The needle took 467 cement trucks to make the foundation. • The body weighs 3,700 tons. • The needle at the top is 605 tall • There was over 2.3 million visitors to the needle at the Worlds Fair of 19xx. • There are 3 elevators and 6 floors. • The whole needle weighs 9,550 tons • Nicknames, Needle: space cage restaurant :eye of the needle • It has 250 tons of reinforcing steel.

  4. What to Do • You should go to the New Years Eve fireworks • Go on the observation deck and get a 360 view of the city Seattle • Go to the restaurant Sky City Open daily till midnight Best day to come is on clear days! In sky city sit by the window to get a 14ft ring around the city 

Edward E Carlson Edward Elmer Carlson was born in Tacoma on June 4, 1911.  His legal name was Elmer Edwin Carlson, a name he disliked and changed informally in 1925 and later legally.  His mother, the Canadian-born Lula M. Powers Carlson (1893-1973), was 17 when her son was born.  His father, Elmer Edward Carlson (1888-1966) was a Swedish immigrant who earned his living as a boilermaker and welder.  The family settled in Seattle.

  6. Fun Facts Seattle Tennessee In 2000 the space needle had a 2 million renovation. There was over 1,000 famous people that sang in sky city Edward e Carlson died April 3 1990. Did you know there is another space needle similar to the Seattle one in Tennessee?
