Fashion design is the art of application of design and aesthetics or natural beauty to clothing and accessories. Fashion design is influenced by cultural and social latitudes, and has varied over time and place. Fashion designers work in a number of ways in designing clothing and accessories such as bracelets and necklace, because of the time required to bring a garment onto the market, must at times anticipate changing consumer tastes.<br>Fashion designers attempt to design clothes which are functional as well as aesthetically pleasing. They consider who is likely to wear a garment and the situations in which it will be worn. They have a wide range and combinations of materials to work with and a wide range of colors, patterns and styles to choose from. Though most clothing worn for everyday wear falls within a narrow range of conventional styles, unusual garments are usually sought for special occasions such as evening wear or party dresses.<br>Some clothes are made specifically for an individual, as in the case of haute couture or bespoke tailoring. Today, most clothing is designed for the mass market, especially casual and every-day wear.<br>

Welcome to NIFD • National Institute of Fashion Designing was established in the year 2002. • Within a short span of time, the institute acquired tremendous growth and popularity and considering its benevolent output the Government of Orissa recognised it as regular academic institute and the Utkal University of Culture bestowed an affiliation to offer Degree courses in all three prime disciplines viz. Fashion Design, Interior Design and Textile Design. • The Institute through out this upheavel stood as a pioneering and trend-setting Institute in the spectrum of Fashion, Textile and Interior Design. The nifd fashioned to accomplish the two fold objectives, promoting fashion attentiveness, and to meet the budding need of the industry for trained, conscious and industrious professionals. Within a short span of time.

  3. Mission of NIFD • The National Institute of Fashion Designing (nifd) is planned and shaped to make unemployed youths self-sustained. As Fashion industries burgeoning in important metros and cosmopolitan bases of India like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune etc. It was decided to establish a Fashion Designing Institute at Bhubaneswar, capital of Orissa, which is emerging very fast as a cosmopolitan city. It is committed to provide excellent education in the field of Fashion, Interior and Textile. Due to mushrooming of several technological institutes and industries, the lifestyle has been changed to a great extent. • To coupe up with the traditional ideology of general people, it has been decided to include several other aspects into the institute, which will support the productivity. • National Institute of Fashion Designing (nifd) will provide educational and training pursuits in such areas, which are relevant to the contemporary, needs of the industry in India and shall place strong emphasis on academic quality and shall be driven by uncompromising ethics and professional approach.

Objectives of NIFD • To develop and Foster a collegiate environment. • To provide an in-house environment for Fostering close student-teacher relations. • To Foster service attitude and imbibe the basic values of life in students. • To incorporate a philosophy of ethics, sweetness, love and fellow feelings in the college and in the educational programs in order for students to become responsible and disciplined citizens of the world. • To abide by State Government and University procedures and code of practice. • To adopt feed back mechanism through formal committee structures. • To allow faculty to focus on education of students and research with administrative activities wherever possible. • To promote a healthy relation and collaborate with various related industries and research organization to achieve mission objectives of the college, starting from local to international level. • To facilitate in job placements to the students in India and abroad to build their careers.

  5. Courses provided by NIFD • Fashion Designing Fashion is a manner of weaving, style and carrying yourself in a comfortable way. It has been accepted by a substantial group of people at given time and place. Not only clothes but also about accessories, fashion changes ones personality and attitude and one becomes more confident. The fashion design course sharpens the creativity of the students ad equips them with technical knowledge required for success in this glamorous field and promises to make the students real professionals having an integrated personality at par with global requirements. This also gives them exciting opportunities in fashion design, fashion coordination, client servicing, marketing and merchandizing.

  6. Courses contd.. • Textile Designing Textile design is a part of fashion. It deals with weaving process and various technical aspects such as fabric screen printing. Batik, Bandha blocks printed and woven design keeping in view the technical requirements which the industry demands and create exciting opportunities in textile industries, export houses, manufacturing units etc. Textile manufacturers are in high demand by all the manufacturers and export houses, as India is one of the largest textile manufacturing and export nation.

Courses contd.. • Interior Designing Interior design is a vast discipline covering numerous aspects of designing such as landscaping, climatology, building services, vaastu, fengshui, furniture design, lighting, electrical etc. Not only is Interior design restricted to residential but also commercial spaces. A successful design is the product of mastermind’s creativity. Interior design study helps in creating synergies between the aspects of beauty and utility. The course aims at involving creative solutions for assimilation of diverse elements of interiors such as furniture, lighting, shading, materials etc.
