  2. Problem A trapezoid with vertices at (-1,2), (1,2), (3, -2) and (-3,-2) is graphed in the coordinate plane. What is the area of the region of the trapezoid that is above the x-axis?

  3. Step One • I created a coordinate grid so I can visualize the trapezoid when I plot the coordinates on the graph

  4. Step 2 • I created a coordinate grid so I can visualize the trapezoid when I plot the coordinates on the graph

  5. Step 3 • Then I had to find the area of the region of the trapezoid that is above the x-axis and to do that I had to find the area of the whole trapezoid

  6. Step 4 • So then I counted the number of squares by the square of the height, base 1(which is the top of the trapezoid), and the measurements of base 2(which is the bottom of the trapezoid) Measurements • Height: 4 squares • Base 1: 6 squares • Base 2: 2 squares

  7. Step 5 • So then I did the equation to find the area of a trapezoid: 0.5*4*(6+2)=16

  8. Step 6 • Then after finding the answer to that equation I divided it by 2 which equals 8, I did that because the question only wanted to know the area of the region of the trapezoid that is above the x-axis

  9. Answer : the area of the region of the trapezoid that is above the x-axis is 8
