  6. SMA – From pioneer to market leader Founded in 1981 Turnover of about 934 million euros in 2009* Share in exports > 40 % More than 4,000 employees all over the globe Approx. 250 trainees Subsidiaries in 13 countries on four continents Best efficiency worldwide (98.7 %) • Annual production reached about 3.4 gigawatts in 2009 2) 1) • Market share is based on the ratio to MW power sold by the companies (Photon 5/2008) to the total size of the PV market of 2,826 MW (Solarbuzz LLC, 3/2008) • Market share is based on the ratio to MW power sold by the companies (Sonne Wind & Wärme, 5/2009) to the total size of the PV market of 5,750 MW (BSW, 2/2009) * Provisional figures

  7. Extension of the development capacities to approx. 450 developers by 2010 Facts Major innovations H5 Topology (2007) • Innovative connection technology increasing the efficiency to 98 % Electronic Solar Switch (2007) • First integrated direct current load disconnection unit for highest security OptiTrac (2007) • Yield increase of the PV system through optimization of the Maximum Power Point (MPP) OptiCool (2005) • Full efficiency up to 40 °C through for a patent applied modes • Technology is the driver for cost reduction and increase of efficiency Comment: (1) Reduction of specific price in terms of Sunny Boy and Sunny Mini Central. Calculation based on the catalog price per Watt for the most efficient and most powerful product in the respective year.

  8. Clear technology leadership with new products also in 2009 SUNNY CENTRAL 630 OUTDOOR SUNNY CENTRAL 630HE SUNNY BOY3000HF SUNNY TRIPOWER 17000TL BLUETOOTHCommunication • Up to six new products per year ensure SMA's competitive advantage

  9. Service Sales & Service More than 500 sales and services representatives globally 8 Consistent internationalization in order to take over key positions in all future solar markets

  10. Outstanding flexibility Annual production fluctuation SUNNY BOY/SUNNY MINI CENTRAL • Our flexibility is the best and safest response to the high market fluctuations

  11. SMA products regularly win awards Intersolar AWARD Sunny Boy 5000TL Product Design AwardSunny Boy 4000TL IPO of the Year 2008 Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany Sunny Boy 4000TL • Awards underline our exceptional performance

  12. We involve our employees with their minds, their hearts, and their wallets ... Cooperative management at SMA • High transparency and “Open-door policy” • Employees' equity participation scheme (shares) • Bonuses based on the company's success for all employees • Continuous personnel training (5 training days per year & employee) • Low number of sick leave at 2.8 % (SMA Germany) • Low employee fluctuation (approx. 0.7 %) Fairness Award 2008 Great Place to Work Award 2009 Life Long Learning Award 2007 Entrepreneur of the Year 2006 • Extraordinary corporate culture fosters flexibility and innovation

  13. We contribute to the solution of social problems • Charitable commitment at SMA • Orphans in Uganda • Tsunami victims in Sri Lanka • Combating poverty in Africa • Charitable organizations in Germany • Our social and ecological responsibility already begins within our company (employee culture, environmentally compliant production) • Our employees are proud of SMA and commit themselves!

  14. SMA is committed to Germany World's largest solar inverter factory CO2e neutral factory with a size of 18,500 sqm and an annual production of 4 GWp Production energy from renewable resources (building-integrated PV system, gas-driven combined heat and power plant, biogas supply) Energy-efficient design (low-energy building concept, use of process waste heat, natural ventilation...) About 1,000 new jobs Solar Academy will be completed in 2010 Training center for more than 6,000 installers per year Renewable supply with independent off-grid system Co2-emission neutral factory: Building-integrated PV system of 1 MW, biogas-driven combined heat and power plant of 225 kW of electrical and 351 kW of thermal energy etc. Solar Academy: Building-integrated PV system of 120 kWp with Sunny Island battery inverters, biogas-driven combined heat and power plant etc. • Investment of 60 million Euros in the region Northern Hesse in 2008 (of which 45 million euros are invested in new factory)

  15. Further expansion of production capacities and production site • Market fluctuations and demand peaks require high flexibility in production • Expansion of the annual capacity to nine to ten GWp through short-term interim solutions in the industrial area in Waldau/Kassel until June 2010 • Medium-term replacement of interim solutions by expanding the production site to the new industrial area Sandershäuser Berg • Construction of a Service Center and main warehouse for components • Establishment of further production modules if demand is correspondingly high • Expansion of the infrastructure at the headquarters by creating new office space Planned SMA location Sandershäuser Berg, top view from east • Planned investments from 2010 until 2012 of about 80 to 120 million euros/year

  16. SMA builds first international production • The USA will in the medium-term become the world's largest PV market • Building a production site in Denver, Colorado • Reduction of transport and warehousing costs as well as minimization of exchange rate risk • Capacity of about one GW can be flexibly expanded • Creation of approx. 700 jobs • Start of production scheduled for July 2010 • Planned investments of around 15 million euros

  17. Our motto Let’s be realistic and try the impossible!
