  2. Am Lit DO NOW 2/24/14 • What does “Modern” mean to you? • Today, we start a new tab in our binders. Add a tab after American Romance notes and label this new tab “Modernism”

SUCCESS TODAY MEANS 2/24 • You read the introduction to Modernism, evaluating what is important information by note taking those ideas using the partially completed outline (ONLY FILL OUT THE SECTIONS THAT ARE UNDERLINED. • True success means that you can describe the literary movement “Modernism” in your own words on your EXIT TICKET today • You discover who T.S. ELLIOT (pg. 968) is, and take notes on a separate sheet of paper (which will be added to your binder behind the Modernism Tab) • ELITE: You read “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” and test your comprehension by answering Question 1-3 pg. 974

  4. Am Lit: Do Now 2-25-14 • Three sets of questions Ladies and Gentlemen: • Predict: What do you think this poem will be about based on the title: “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” • When/Where would people write their name out like “J. Alfred Prufrock”? Do you write your name First Initial, Middle Name, Last Name? • What is ether?

Alfred Prufrock” once to grasp some basic ideas and then twice to try to comprehend the poem. • You demonstrate your level of comprehension by summarizing stanzas using the graphic organizer provided. • You prepare to be confused, frustrated. This can be a difficult poem because it is written by arguably the smartest poet of all time. • So, let’s practice GRIT today!

Am lit DO now 2/26/14 Let us go then, you and I, When the evening is spread out against the sky Like a patient etherized upon a table; Let us go, through certain half-deserted streets, The muttering retreats Of restless nights in one-night cheap hotels And sawdust restaurants with oyster-shells: Streets that follow like a tedious argument Of insidious intent To lead you to an overwhelming question ... Oh, do not ask, “What is it?” Let us go and make our visit. Read the following stanza, and summarize it in one or two sentences. Summary means to give the main idea, the central idea to the passage. ELITE: what literary devices do you see?

  7. Success today means 2/26/14 • You collaborate with peers in effective academic conversation focusing on summarizing the stanzas of the poem, recording your discoveries in your graphic organizers. • Once we comprehend the main ideas, we can analyze his character tomorrow.

  8. Am lit do now 2/27/14 Read the following stanza, and summarize it in one or two sentences. Summary means to give the main idea, the central idea to the passage. ELITE: what literary devices are present here? You have to infer. “And I have known the eyes already, known them all— The eyes that fix you in a formulated phrase, And when I am formulated, sprawling on a pin, When I am pinned and wriggling on the wall, Then how should I begin To spit out all the butt-ends of my days and ways?  And how should I presume?”

  9. Success today means 2/27/14 • You continue to demonstrate your comprehension of the poem by summarizing stanzas with your elbow partner. And recording your discoveries in the graphic organizer. • HW: 50 notecards, at least 5 source cards= 55 index cards due tomorrow

  10. Am Lit DO NOW 2/28/14 • Flip back through the poem “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” findthree details about the character of J. Alfred Prufrock.” They could be direct, like physical descriptions. ELITE THINKERS: They could be indirect like inferences. For example, “Prufrock is a ____ guy because he says _______.” (Like when he using imagery or allusions to famous fictional characters to describe himself)

Success today means 2/28 • You have your required research notecards/source cards on your desk for me to check. • You demonstrate your understanding of Prufrock’s character by designing a facebook profile for him on poster paper. • You get your rough draft approved today and begin to pencil in your final poster.

Prufrock Facebook Profile Copy down the requirements for your Prufrock Facebook Profile • Must incorporate at least 3 direct quotes. • Must have at least 2 examples of imagery- preferably drawn • Must have at least two physical description or physical drawing of him that incorporates two physical details • Must have at least one example of his personality (how he thinks, acts)

  13. Facebook profile Think about: • What, would his posts be like? Pictures? • How many friends would he have? • What would his profile pic look like? • Interests? • Facebook games? • BE CREATIVE. This is a project grade, so take your time.
