JUDAISM. 101. JUST THE BASICS. Judaism is monotheistic. It was the first religion to practice monotheism God created and rules the world. God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent. COVENANT. Jews are in a covenant relationship with God. Jews are God’s chosen people.

  2. JUST THE BASICS Judaism is monotheistic. It was the first religion to practice monotheism God created and rules the world. God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent

  3. COVENANT Jews are in a covenant relationship with God. Jews are God’s chosen people. Man is created in God’s image and therefore all are equal.

  4. THE TEN COMMANDMENTS Deuteronomy Chapter 6. The first 4 deal with relationship of God to man. The final 6 deal with Man’s relationship with each other. Given to Moses on Mt. Sinai.

  5. Judaism and Ethics Judaism is an ethical religion. The Torah is the primary religious text. There are 613 commandments in the Torah. Jews also have over 700 laws that deal just with food.

  6. LAND/Messiah The land of Israel was part of the covenant promised by God. The covenant was made with Abraham. The messiah has not come yet but will come through the house of King David.

  7. PRINCIPLES OF JUDAISM Rambam's thirteen principles of faith is the most widely-accepted list of Jewish beliefs.1. God exists.2. God is one and unique.3. God is incorporeal.4. God is eternal.5. Prayer is to be directed to God alone.6. The words of the prophets are true.7. Moses was the greatest prophet, and his prophecies are true.8. The Torah was given to Moses.9. There will be no other Torah.10. God knows the thoughts and deeds of men.11. God will reward the good and punish the wicked.12. The Messiah will come.13. The dead will be resurrected.

  8. ESSENCE OF JUDAISM The following famous story from the Talmud best summarizes the essence of Judaism. A non-Jew asked Rabbi Hillel to teach him all about the Torah while standing on one foot. Rabbi Hillel said: "What is hateful to you, don't do unto your neighbor. The rest is commentary. Now, go and study."
