  1. THE COMPLETE EPHEDRA GUIDE

  2. There is much misinformation and controversy regarding ephedra products for diet and weight loss if you are looking to buy the supplement online.

  3. While there are side effects that can be encountered with over-use of the drug, it is unfortunate that so many individuals have a negative view of ephedra when it has helped thousands to lose weight in a safe and effective way.

  4. In this article, we will give you a comprehensive look at buying ephedra to help you burn fat as well as possible side effects and how to prevent them.

  5. We will take you through how ephedra actually causes weight loss and some of the diet pills available that contain the ephedrine alkaloid.

  6. Ephedra is a chemical extract that is derived from the ephedra sinica plant – a herb originally discovered in China over 5,000 years ago.

  7. In Chinese medicine, it is referred to as Ma Huang and is used to address a number of symptoms such as colds, fevers, influenza, and breathing difficulty.

  8. The ephedra sinica plant is a green shrub with stem-like offshoots that can grow as tall as 5 feet into the air. It typically is found in dry, desert climates in Asia, but other versions of the plant can be found in a number of different locales around the world.

  9. Ephedra nevadensis is another popular species of the herb found in the US and ephedra viridis, ephedra gerardiana, and ephedra distacha can also be found through North America and Europe.

  10. The plant is bestowed its medicinal properties because it contains a combination of alkaloid chemicals that act as stimulants on the body.

  11. Of these alkaloids, ephedrine has the highest prevalence in the plant and is the one that produces the greatest stimulant effects due to its similarity to adrenalin when ingested in the human body.

  12. Another alkaloid is pseudoephedrine which is slightly less powerful than its similarly named companion, but also has remedial properties.

  13. The Chinese would extract the alkaloids from the ephedra plant by using the stems, branches, roots, and seeds (known as the Ma Huanggen) in either power format, as a hot oil, or as Ephedra Tea.

  14. It was used for thousands of years to alleviate arthritis, hay fever, and or respiratory symptoms but it was not until 1923 that it was adopted by the Western world as a medical compound.

  15. It was around this time that the ephedrine alkaloid was isolated from the ephedra plant and used by drug manufacturers as a component in over-the-counter decongestants.

  16. More recently, the drug has been recognized for its significant weight loss benefits and its ability to boost the metabolism as well as improve athletic abilities.

  17. It does this by imitating natural adrenaline in the body, causing more energy to be released from the cells and more fat to be oxidized. It will often be found in weight loss supplements alongside caffeine and aspirin or white willow bark.

  18. This combination known as an EC Stack or an ECA Stack has been proven as more effective for weight loss than when using ephedra on its own.

  19. When used under safe conditions with proper advice from a medical expert, ephedra and ephedrine are recognized as safe for achieving moderate amounts of weight loss every month.

  20. The problems with the drug tend to occur when it is used in excessive doses, used in conjunction with other fat burning drugs, or used by patients with other medical conditions.

  21. In these situations, you may find that ephedra leads to anxiety, restlessness, headaches, nausea, difficulty sleeping, irregular heartbeat, an dizziness. In more extreme cases, the drug has been known to cause strokes, heart attacks, or even death.

  22. Because of these potential side effects, in 2004 the FDA banned all supplements containing the ephedra sinica alkaloids, citing that they posed an unsafe risk.

  23. However, in 2007 the Food and Drug Administration upheld a ruling that declared ephedrine HCL safe to use in certain dose sizes. Individuals who use ephedrine rather than ephedra for weight loss will not see any reduction in possible results.

  24. Since ephedrine is the active alkaloid in ephedra that causes weight loss, by consuming pure ephedrine you will experience more targeted fat burning results with this version of the drug.

  25. The one stipulation is that you must purchase your ephedrine in doses of 8 mg or less and it must be marketed as a nasal decongestant. This is to prevent individuals who want to lose unhealthy amounts of weight in a rapid amount of time from abusing the product by taking unsafe dose sizes.
